This system provides a single entry electronic application for Oversize/ Overweight permitting. It provides a single point of information regarding OS/OW regulations and restrictions in the state. Having this type of system will reduce permitting application, processing, and issuance delays for commercial vehicle operators. It will also reduce data collection errors, staff resources required, and cost of permit processing.The existing version of this system is called Caltrans Single-Trip Application and Routing System (STARS). STARS was originally designed for high-volume permit users, but the capability will ultimately be extended to all OS/OW permit applicants.
